Avon Discovers the Missing Unicorn in a Glittery Exhibit at FVAC
Camomile Hixon greeted art patrons Friday at her exhibit.
Camomile Hixon greeted art patrons who came to see her glitter wonderland and quest for a messcene at an opening at the Farmington Valley Arts Center starting Feb. 4.
The exhibit included through a glitter-laden path beneath a canopy of sparkling birch trees. A unicorn drenched in various shades of glitter can be seen along the way.
Hixon also made a name for herself after putting up 2,000 missing unicorn posters all throughout Manhattan. There was a wall with e-mails from all over the world responding to her posters.
“I wanted to lift the mood of Manhattan … I was riding subways and thinking if I could just make a few businessmen think of unicorns for 10 seconds then I would feel happy about that project,” Hixon said.
Artist Bill Covitz of Cheshire's unicorn ice sculpture was featured, as well, and Hixon had many other glitter paintings on display.
“I try to invite people to see something they’ve never seen before and that’s what’s most important to me as an artist," Hixon said. “This work is meant to make people as positive as they could feel."
The show runs through noon until 4 p.m. on Saturday and continues through March 5.
The Farmington Valley Arts Center is located at 25 Arts Center Lane in Avon Park North, Avon, Connecticut. For additional information, visit www.artsfvac.org or call 860-678-1867.
