Avon Swimmer Sydney Golic Commits to Notre Dame

Golic is a student at Northwest Catholic in West Hartford and swims for the West Hartford Aquatics Team.

Avon resident Sydney Golic will join her two football-playing brothers, Mike Jr. and Jake at the University of Notre Dame next fall.

The Northwest Catholic senior will also join the Fighting Irish swim team, the catholic private school announced at a press conference Jan. 5.

Golic has been swimming competively since she was 6 and Rob Riccobbon has been coaching her since she was 7. She currently swims on the West Hartford Aquatic Team, specializing in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke; the 100 and 200 breaststroke; and 200 and 400 individual medley.

Since she was 10, she has often qualified for the CT Zones team, an all-star team that competes in regional meets. Golic has also won multiple state championships over the past four years.

Her swimming accolades also carry nationwide, after several qualifications for Junior Nationals and three finalist performances at national meets in Irvine, CA and Orlando, FL.

One of her 100-meter breast stroke times came close to Olympic-trial-qualifying.

At Northwest Catholic, she has been a member of the National Honor Society since she was a junior.

She is also an active volunteer at Foodshare in Bloomfield.
