CT Assoc. of Public School Superintendents' Recipients

Gary S. Mala, Superintendent of Avon Public Schools, is pleased to announce that students Jordan Lazinsk and Rebecca Rothstein are this year’s recipients of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents student recognition awards.  The two were honored along with students from area school districts at the Farmington Valley Superintendents’ Association Student Recognition Awards Program on November 30, 2012.

These awards are presented each year to students who model leadership abilities; service to their school and community and excellence both in and out of the classroom.

Jordan Lazinsk, Avon Middle School

Jordan Lazinsk is a dedicated student who strives to achieve to the best of his ability in every subject and has consistently been an A student.  He believes in the importance of giving back to his community - setting up and taking down the U.S. flag in Avon on national holidays,
volunteering his time with the elderly, collecting baseball
equipment for the Roberto Clemente Little League in Hartford.  Jordan also involves himself in raising funds for the American Cancer Society and participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.  His most notable accomplishment of leadership is being the Co-Safety Liaison of the Student Council this year after having been an active member for the past two years.  While on the Student Council he has helped organize dances and fundraisers.  In addition, Jordan has achieved the rank of Star Scout in the Boy Scouts and is a Patrol Leader, is a member of the Troop’s Patrol Leaders Council and Troop’s Venture Patrol. Jordan enjoys being active in Chorus, Arioso and Prelude, an eleven member a cappella group.

Rebecca Rothstein, Avon High School
Rebecca Rothstein is a student of character and integrity. Rebecca offers a refined disposition and a level of personal authority that is unparalleled among her peers.  Her impeccable work ethic, steady moral character as well as her outstanding leadership qualities and authentic motivation render her just about perfect in every way possible.  Respected for delivering consistently on all her commitments, giving equal weight and effort to each and
every task demanded of her, she is an inspiration to her teachers and peers.  A leader in all facets of her life, Rebecca’s work as a camp counselor and her travel to Israel with her camp remain two of the most rewarding
experiences of her life thus far.
