Avon Athletes Take to the Streets

Avon residents are advised to be on the look-out for ‘Falcons’ decked in blue and white on Sunday, September 15th when, between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m., Avon High School athletes representing all athletic teams will visit area neighborhoods for the annual Booster Club ticket drive.  Escorted by parent-drivers, athletes will canvass the town in small groups to solicit donations to the club, which aims to support and enhance all AHS athletic programs.

Last year, student-athletes collected over $11,000.00, while a separate direct-mail campaign brought in $8,000.00 – money which funded scholarships and purchased such essentials as field hockey goals, a baseball batting cage, an indoor/outdoor track timing system and records boards for a number of teams.  “We hope that Avon residents will, once again, show their pride in Avon sports programs by supporting our campaign this year as they have so generously in the past,” says Booster Club President, Maria Mascoli.

All Booster Club donations directly benefit sports teams which, in these lean times of reduced budgets and line item cuts, have come to rely on the club to provide essentials not covered by the budget or by parent ‘pay to play’ fees.
