Avon Cub Scouts Support Gifts of Love with food drive

Avon Cub Scout Packs 122 and 274 worked together last weekend to collect food donations for the Gifts of Love Backpack Program. Each Friday, Gifts of Love distributes backpacks, full of easy-to-prepare food for the weekend. Students who qualify for free-or-reduced meals at school often do not have enough food at home over the weekend. Children take home the backpacks Friday and return the empty backpacks Monday morning, so volunteers can refill them the following week. Gifts of Love is currently distributing 168 weekend backpacks in the Farmington Valley area. Scouts solicited food donations from their friends and neighbors to support the program.

The Cub Scouts would like to thank all of the residents of Avon that donated and also would like to thank Big Y for the donation of the bags used in the collection.
