Avon Summer Theater Presents "Sound of Music"

Avon Summer Theater is busy preparing for their performance of "Sound of Music" July 25, 26, 27 at 7:30 and July 28 at 2:00 at Avon High School on West Avon Road.

Fifty-one students in grades 7-12 from Avon, Canton, Simsbury, West Hartford and Farmington have come together to sing, dance, act, build sets and put together lighting and sound for the performances for the entire month of July, and many of them return every year to be part of this experience.  “The first year I did AST, we did Bye Bye Birdie.  The first week, I told my mom that I was definitely doing this every year!  This is my fourth year,” said Rachel Beauregard, a junior who plays Marta Von Trapp.

The group started rehearsing/planning on July 1st, and not only do they get the chance to perform a classic musical, but they are getting four weeks of a great theater arts learning experience, bonding from 9:00-2:00 each day.  Their day includes the expected rehearsing and blocking, hammering and painting, but also includes a spirit week where they come together just to have fun.  “I look forward to this every year, and I was so glad to land the part of Maria!” said Amanda Pratt, a graduated senior who will enjoy the program for the seventh consecutive summer.
