LeGeyt to Seek Re-Election

CANTON—State Rep. Tim LeGeyt announced today that he would seek a fourth term as state representative for the 17th General Assembly District serving the residents of Canton and Avon.

“Connecticut faces significant financial hurdles today and for the foreseeable future, problems intensified by the legislature’s restrictive attitude toward the owners of small businesses—the people our state needs to help turn around the economy,” LeGeyt said. “I’d like to continue to bring greater focus to these issues and work toward solutions that stabilize government finances while creating an environment where employers can thrive and create jobs.”

During his time as a state lawmaker, LeGeyt has received accolades from constituents who have appreciated his diligent effort at community outreach by which he works to inform residents about a wide range of legislative issues.  LeGeyt voted against a state budget that exceeded the state’s constitutional spending cap, helped Republicans rally against a gas tax increase, and has supported legislation aimed at helping small businesses.

“Nearly every day I talk to residents who are increasingly frustrated with our state’s direction,” LeGeyt said, “and I’m honored that so many of them have supported me in my work in the Legislature.  As a member of the Education Committee I’ve worked hard to help inform our process to best provide for our children and their educational opportunities.”

LeGeyt was first elected to the state legislature in 2008.

Recently, LeGeyt, a former teacher, has been at the forefront of discussion over the implementation of Common Core educational standards. As the Ranking Member on the Higher Education Committee, he has also been deeply involved in legislative hearings and the resulting bill aimed at preventing sexual violence at college campuses in Connecticut.”

“I see my position as a state representative as one in which I work to legislate, advocate, and educate—to legislate according to the preferences of my constituents, to advocate for my constituents  who need and deserve state services, and to educate my constituents regarding the various bill initiatives and their underlying policies,” LeGeyt said.

“People have put their faith in me, and I intend to do everything I can to continue to represent their values and vision for the state they’ve chosen to call home,” he said.
