An Avon family got a visit from a wild neighbor in mid-October.
Katy Alvord was at her parents' house on Old Wheeler Lane near Roaring Brook School when she saw a bear in the yard.
"I was walking to my car on the road and saw something to the right in the front yard of the house," Alvord wrote in an email to Patch. "The bear was about 20 feet from me. I screamed and it got on its hind legs and I ran and it ran to our side yard. It stayed about 15 minutes eating under a bush. It then walked through our backyard into the woods behind Roaring Brook. It was big!"
