Check Out This Avon 9-Year-Old's Book from the Library's Children's Section

Falcon Yule is the author of "Vinestro and Technal."

When you're choosing books for your child to read this summer at Avon Free Public Library, there is one option you can check out written by an Avon boy close to their age.

Falcon Yule, 9, of Avon, published his book, Vinestro and Technal in December 2012. He wrote it as part of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) the fall before. The science fiction story follows the tale of Vinestro, a scientist, trying to get his research back from the evil Technal.

“I’m personally into technology and I had to come up with a story so I figured I would work and make a story about technology," Yule said.

One copy is available in the Avon library's children's section on the second floor. Avon Patch went to find it a few weeks ago, but a patron had checked it out.

“He participates in a lot of programs at the Avon library," Falcon's mother, Summer Yule said. "Sometimes he’s there a couple times a week. He befriended a couple librarians and he asked and they did end up putting it in the catelog and on their shelves.”

Falcon has been home-schooled since his family lived in Boston “so he could be fully challenged at his level.” Summer said that her family moved to Avon three years ago and he attended Talcott Mountain Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology in Avon. Falcon is ahead of some subject levels in Connecticut schools, Summer said.

“We wanted to raise him in a nice suburb and Avon is a nice fit," Summer said.

Falcon is also an inventer. His invention, a timed frog feeder made out of legos, was a Connecticut Invention Convention winner. He appeared on the "Kid Inventors" segment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April, showing a international television audience how his invention worked.
