Simsbury Family Looking for Missing Dog

Eliza was last seen Feb. 10.

A Simsbury family that recently adopted a 3-year-old boxer lab mix from the Meriden Humane Society is looking for her after she escaped on Feb. 10.

Eliza, a white and black dog, was last seen running south on the Farmington Valley Greenway bike trail toward the Avon-Farmington town line.

"Eliza is very shy and will run if chased. If you spot her, do not chase her. She has no aggression and is an extremely sweet dog," a flier posted at the Avon Canine Shelter states. "She loves car rides, baby talk and watching TV."

Avon-Canton Animal Control Officer Beverly LaPlume said that the day Eliza was reported missing, the dog was spotted running behind the Avon Police Department before crossing Route 44 and running behind the canine shelter. LaPlume said Eliza headed toward the Public Works garage and then ran onto the bike trail.

"We have had no sighting of her since then," LaPlume said.

The family said on the flier that if someone is able to coax Eliza into a car with the door open, she will most likely let him put a leash on her. Otherwise, the family asked that trained staff at the Meriden Humane society be left to handle her.

"We appreciate any information we can get," the flier stated.

If you see Eliza, contact the Meriden Humane Society at 203-238-3650 or Lauren Frazer at 860-985-5799.
