Viewfinder: Class of 1961 Has 50th Reunion

Avon High School Principal Jason Beaudin gave the Class of 1961 at tour of the high school.

Fifty years ago, the Class of 1961 was Avon High School's first graduating class. On Saturday about half of them were back.

The students started taking classes together as sophomores when the school opened in 1958. Before that, most Avon students attended high school in Canton and some attended Farmington and Simsbury public schools.

The class met for a reunion  in the afternoon outside the front of Avon High School. About half of the original class was there, about 30 or so.

Avon High School Principal Jason Beaudin took them on a tour through the school, which lasted about an hour. The class explored some familiar rooms as well as additions to the buildilng. The biggest shock to the alumni was the new gymnasium and then a trip back to the old gymnasium.
