Tour imaginative exterior spaces as the talented studio artists who work on-site at the Farmington Valley Arts Center (FVAC) in Avon, Connecticut, compete for votes in the inaugural Holiday Decor Showdown on November 25 and 26.
With its 20 studios and two galleries housed in historic industrial buildings just off Route 44, the FVAC is a unique place to find holiday inspiration, to chat with artists and to purchase locally crafted gifts—pottery, jewelry, paintings, wearables, sculpture and more. On the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day, visitors will find the boardwalk bedecked with enchanting decorations as artists unveil their interpretations of the season and compete for honors.
Wildlife painter and illustrator Kathy Goff will showcase owl sculptures she and her students have created in a natural environment outside Studio 8A. Abstract painter I.S. Levitz's Studio 10A will be all aglitter with the shimmer of silver and the glam of French tulle. Sculptor and painter Avis Turner will overlay a tropical scene of exotic seedpods, butterflies and orchids with sparkling snowflakes outside Studio 8B. Photography is encouraged, and artists are delighted to share holiday decorating tips with visitors.
