POLL: Which Movie Should Win the Oscar for Best Picture?

Nine pictures were nominated in the 84th Academy Awards.

Nine films have been nominated for Best Picture for the 84th Annual Academy Awards as announced on Tuesday morning.

They include Hugo, Midnight in Paris, The Artist, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, War Horse and The Help, according to the Oscars website, which also lists the complete slate of nominees.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the last film in the eight-film saga based on J.K. Rowling's magical series, did not make the list for Best Picture; however it was nominated in the makeup, visual effects and art direction categories, according to the award website.

Emma Stone was not on the nominee list for Best Actress in a leading or supporting role for her work in The Help, but three of her co-stars were. Viola Davis, who played housemaid Aibileen Clark, joins Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Rooney Mara (the new version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Salisbury, CT resident Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady) and Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn) on the nomination for the category of Actress in a Leading Role, according to the Oscars website.

Octavia Spencer (Minny Jackson) and Jessica Chastain (Celia Foote) from The Help received nods in the Actress in a Supporting Role category, along with Bérénice Bejo for The Artist, Melissa McCarthy for her comedic role as Maya Rudolph's tomboy friend in Bridesmaids and Janet McTeer for Albert Nobbs, according to the Oscars website.

The Actor in a Leading Role category includes many familiar names, such as George Clooney (The Descendants), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy) and Brad Pitt (Moneyball), as well as Damián Bichir (A Better Life) and Jean Dujardin (The Artist), according to the list.

Kenneth Branagh is on the list for Actor in a Supporting Role for his part as Sir Laurence Olivier in My Week with Marilyn. He acted alongside his Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets co-star Emma Watson in the film.

Jonah Hill (Moneyball), Nick Nolte (Warrior), Christopher Plummer (Beginners) and Max von Sydow (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close) were also nominated.
