Avon High Falcons kick off new year with Booster Club ticket drive

On Sunday, September 15th, 179 Avon High School fall, winter and spring athletes canvassed area neighborhoods to solicit donations to the Avon Booster Club.  The club, run by parent-volunteers, aims to support and enhance all AHS athletic programs and, in these lean times of budget cuts and ‘pay to play’ fees, is counted on by athletes and coaches alike to generously fund program essentials.

In one day, the student-athletes collected $12,663.00.  In addition, donations continue to trickle in from a separate community direct-mail campaign that was conducted over the summer. “We are delighted about the student turnout, with 75% of AHS teams represented,” commented Maria Mascoli, “and we thank the AHS parents who volunteered and the Avon residents who generously supported Avon Athletics today.”

All Booster Club donations directly benefit sports teams and athletes in the form of equipment and scholarships.  This past year, Booster Club donations funded new nets and goals for Field Hockey, an automatic timing system for Indoor/Outdoor Track, a batting cage for Baseball, a scoreboard for Softball, and records boards for the Crew and Swim teams. In addition, $12,500.00 in scholarship money was awarded to 19 graduating scholar-athletes.
