Record Breaking Year for AHS Track

The Avon High Girls team came up big this year, winning the NCCC tournament, placing 5th at the Class MM tournament, and showcasing some solid performances at the State Open. In addition, several girls posted new Avon High records. Kaely Quijano now holds the AHS record for pole vault (9’ 6”). Maddi McHugh is now the record holder in the 800 (2:18:06) as well as the 5000 (19:04.52). Stephanie Koo, Jen Koo, Tara Shayler and Maddie McHugh hold the 4x400 record. And Stephanie Koo, Tara Shayler, Emma Schweitzer, and Maddie McHugh hold the record for the Sprint Relay.

The Avon High Boys team has a long, long history of legendary performers. Several from our senior class came up big for us over the past four years.

Cory DiBacco ends his career at AHS with several all-time top ten finishes. He is in the top 10 in the 400 (7th place) with a 51.6. This is the fastest time since 1991. He holds 10th place in the  4x400 (where he ran a 51.3) and the 4x800 (both 8th and 10th places). He is on the sub-2.10 list for the 800 (17th place), the sub-5 min. list for the mile, and a member of the top record holding 4x1600 team.

Colin Ponzani leaves AHS in the top 10 in the 800 (7th place) with a 1.59.88. He is also a record holder in the 4x400 (10th place) and the 4x800 (10th place). In addition to the sub-2.10 list for the 800, he is on the sub-5 min. list for the mile, and a member of the top record holding 4x1600 team.

Justin Alessio leaves in the top 10 in the 5000 (8th place) and was a member of the record setting 4x1600 team. He is also on the sub 5-min. list for the mile, and the sub-11 min. list for the 2 mile.

Connor Wise leaves in the top 10 in the 5000 (10th place), on the sub 5-min. list for the mile, and the sub-11 min. list for the 2 mile. He was a member of the record setting 4x1600 team.

Dan Innes is on the sub-5 min. list for the mile and the sub-11 min list for the 2 mile. Michael Oberhausen is on the sub-5 min. list for the mile.

In the field, senior RJ Reid is now in the top 10 for the long jump (6th place).
