The Jack Bannan Memorial Turkey Trot is Wednesday, November 20

As Thanksgiving approaches, we can all join together to help those in need once again with Jack Bannan’s annual Farmington Valley Turkey Trot on Wednesday, November 20 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Mr. Bannan was a World War II veteran and a retired educator of the Simsbury public schools who single-handedly started this turkey drive in 1992.  In honor of his recent passing away this past July, the turkey drive will be officially renamed The Jack Bannan Memorial Turkey Trot.  A group of volunteers sponsors this frozen turkey drive for Thanksgiving with Jack’s daughter, Marianne, who coordinates this effort.  Food Share distributes the donated frozen turkeys to local families in need.

An 18-wheel refrigerated truck will be parked at the main parking lot (near the soccer field) at Henry James Middle School at 155 Firetown Road in Simsbury.  This is a change from past years, when the trailer was located at Simsbury High School, so please make note of this change.  You can deliver your turkey there, or purchase it at one of the following stores and delivery will be arranged.  The participating merchants are Miller Foods in Avon, Fitzgerald’s and Kane’s Market in Simsbury, Geissler’s in Granby and Bloomfield, Stop & Shop in Simsbury and Granby, Shop Rite in Canton, and Big Y in Avon.  For more information or to volunteer, contact Bob Gauthier at 860-658-2071.
