Heather Maguire, Town Council candidate for Avon

Heather Maguire, Avon Republican candidate for Town Council, demonstrates the experience and firm grasp of important town issues to Deliver Results that make Avon a great place to live.

Q: Raising property taxes are always a major concern.  How would you address providing necessary town services with minimum effect on the town tax rate?

Fortunately through our established system of checks and balances, there is an annual review of all departments to determine where efficiencies can be achieved and to prepare for significant and necessary expenditures.  I would support the continued collaboration within our town and surrounding communities to share resources including but not limited to personnel, vendors and contractors.  I would seek alternate financial resources, as well as ways to decrease our overall expenses, including any grants and energy conservation.

Q: What should town officials do to attract new business to town?

Recent economic trends have made staying in business more challenging than ever.  The Town of Avon offers roughly 1 million sq ft of retail space in a convenient location. With 25,000 cars traveling Route 44 on a daily basis, Avon provides business owners diverse opportunities for retailing, while offering a variety of convenient amenities for our residents.  Avon also supports and partners with local manufacturing and professional businesses within the borders of our industrial parks.  Avon should continue to seek new relationships, nurture the existing ones and foster a business friendly environment with these two important districts.  We of course should uphold the regulations that protect our community and environment, but also offer flexibility whenever possible.

Q: What do you see as an important issue facing the town and what should be done about it?

Avon is a special place to live, although we are growing, we are a small town at heart. We want the best for our town. We want to continue to have an outstanding educational system.  We expect our community to be safe and maintain our infrastructure, as we continue to be fiscally responsible.  This is why we chose to live here.  I will work hard to maintain and improve the Town of Avon.  As a member of the Town council, I will strive for nothing less than excellence in our Town
