James Speich, incumbent Board of Finance candidate for Avon

James Speich, Avon Republican incumbent candidate for Board of Finance, demonstrates the methodical attention to detail to offer creative solutions to town wide financial matters to Deliver Results that makes Avon service the needs of its citizens while being respectful of the revenues provided by its tax payers.

As a 35-year resident of the Town of Avon, a Board of Finance member since 2000 and a member of the Avon Volunteer Fire Department I am dedicated and proud of our community. As a successful community, we need to maintain and support our volunteer services, plan for future capital projects, budget adequate surplus to maintain our AAA bond rating and continue the tradition of an excellent school system.

It is clear to me that these goals paired with sustaining our quality of life here in Avon are linked to a financial burden. As a member of the Board of Finance I will continue to evaluate budget requests against the ability of the residents to afford the tax burden, be diligent in gaining justification for expenditures and search out ways to reduce costs. The three Boards (Town Council, Board of Education, Board of Finance) need to continue working together to share costs and operations wherever possible. We need to reach out as we have in the past to share services with surrounding towns and be a leader in regionalization of services.

These are still challenging times. The economic conditions locally, throughout the state and nationwide are slow to improve. We need to continue to work together as a fiscally sound community to maintain Avon as a desirable place to live, work and play.
