Mark Zacchio, Town Council candidate for Avon

Mark Zacchio, Avon Republican incumbent candidate for Town Council, and council chairperson, has led and guided the town through natural disasters and major town wide initiatives to Deliver Results that makes Avon a stronger community, and premier destination for businesses and families looking to work and live in the Hartford County area.

Q: Raising Property taxes are always a major concern.  How would you address providing necessary town services with minimum effect on the town tax rate?

Our Council has a proven record of delivering excellent services at a value to the citizens of Avon.  We approach each budget with the mantra to sustain or expand services in the area of Public Safety and Social Services and have successfully delivered on both, while expanding other services where necessary.  I take a leadership role in offsetting costs to the tax base by:

What should town officials do to attract new businesses to town?

Avon is merely 22.5 square miles; we’re geographically limited for industrial space. Further expansion would affect the quality of life and the rural bedroom community we enjoy.  Still, efforts focusing on businesses are vital, and several examples of expansion, new businesses, and development of the Town center can be seen throughout our industrial space in Avon Park North and South.

• Staying efficient and keeping tax costs as low as possible serves as a conduit for businesses to come to Avon.

• Our culture of remaining business friendly through a set of well defined criteria, proactive relationship building, partnering, and support of the Chamber of Commerce is fundamental.

What do you see as an important issue facing the town and what should be done about it?

The Council sets expectations for the culture of our Government.  Many groups tend to lobby around a myopic theme that may not recognize the greater needs of the community.  It’s important to support candidates that focus on the Community as a whole.
