Avon Business Buzz: New Burger Place Opens; Lenox Road Housing Developments Proposed

The latest news in the business community from March 17 to March 23, 2013.

Another upscale burger place has opened in the Farmington Valley, a proposed housing development is sparking a lot of conversation and a local gym has partnered with another restaurant to offer healthy dining options.

Here's the latest activity in the Avon business scene over the past week:

  • BurgerFi is now open in Avon Marketplace next to TCBY, right on the Avon/Simsbury town line. The franchise offers "all-natural" Angus beef, French fries, craft beers, wine and "natural frozen custards," according to its website. BurgerFi stands for the recent "Burgerfication of the Nation." More information is available online at burgerfi.com  or by phone at 860-508-7503.
  • Developer Bill Ferrigno of Sunlight Construction is proposing "23 single-family cluster subdivision lots" and 34 "condominium-style homes" at 44 Lenox Rd. The single-family homes would be part of a development called Jefferson Crossing, divided into a mixture of 15,000- and 30,000-square-foot lots. The portion planned for condominiums would be named Southampton Village. The town has already received letters from many neighbors with concerns about how it will affect their quiet neighborhood and traffic circulation. Discussions have also arisen in the comments on the Avon Patch story about home density in town. The Planning and Zoning Commission is reviewing the applications and there was a public hearing on the subject at its March 19 meeting.
  • Snap Fitness and franchise owner Michele Welcome-Pellegatto have launched another healthy "Michele-approved" menu at Deepwater Seafood in Avon. It includes Scottish organic salmon, swordfish and side choices of steamed carrots or broccoli, rice and beans, green salad with balsamic dressing, grilled veggies, leek and white bean ragout, roasted cauliflower, snacks like jumpo and specialty shrimp, and "Michele's Fish Tacos with grilled orange roughy."
  • The Avon Chamber of Commerce and Carmon Funeral Home are co-sponsoring a community blood drive on April 18 from noon to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Blood donors are particularly needed in the 1 to 3 p.m. time frame. Food from chamber member restaurants will be provided for donors and participants will also receive a thank you bag with donated items. You can register by contacting Avon Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lisa Bohman at avonchamber@sbcglobal.net.
