Avon Unemployment Rate Third Lowest in Connecticut Last Month

The town's 5.6 percent unemployment rate, based on Connecticut Department of Labor statistics, was a slight improvement over July's 5.8 percent.

Avon had the third lowest unemployment rate in Connecticut in August, according to Connecticut Department of Labor statistics.

As of August, 5.6 percent of the 9,223-person labor force in Avon was unemployed, amounting to 521 people, according to the Department of Labor data. That marks a .2 percent improvement over July. 

Darien, Eastford and Norfolk also had a 5.6 unemployment rate in August. Hartland had the lowest unemployment rate in the state that month at 4.6 percent and Colebrook showed a 5 percent unemployment rate. Hartford had the highest unemployment percentage (16.6) in August.

The rest of the nation saw a slight improvement in the unemployment figures as well. Connecticut dipped .1 percent to a 9.1 percent unemployment rate. The United States did the same with a 9.2 percent rate.

Avon's unemployment percentage remained between 5.4 and 6.1 percent in 2011, according to Department of Labor reports.
