Fitbody Personal Training Opens in Riverdale Farms

Kids' boot camps and women's self-defense classes among the offerings.

Lorren Pogson strongly believes that a healthier body makes for a happier person and results in a better environment for all. She is putting her beliefs into practice with the opening of her new business, Fitbody Personal Training.

Located in the Riverdale Farms Shopping Center in Avon, the fledgling business opened its doors on Oct. 1. With rented space in Building 4 — a former yoga studio — Pogson and her business partner will provide personal training services, adult and kid boot camps and women’s defense classes.

Pogson, who graduated from Farmington High School and then earned a degree at UConn in horticulture and natural resource management, enlisted in the National Guard and subsequently went on active duty with the United States Army. She attained the rank of captain and served as a chemical officer with an attack helicopter squadron in Kuwait and Iraq. Pogson had the distinction of being in the first unit to go to Kuwait in 2002.

Upon her return from military service, she worked in her family's business — Mountain View Farm in Farmington — while studying to earn certification as a group fitness instructor. After starting her own fruit and vegetable produce stand, she and the brother of an Army combat buddy developed the idea of opening the fitness studio.

At Fitbody, Pogson will lead women’s self-defense classes Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 p.m. (cost is $99 for a two-day course) and hold boot camps at $10/session on Mondays-Fridays, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

“I want to share my knowledge of living a healthy lifestyle — being outside and eating healthy,” said Pogson, who has a long list of potential classes she may offer. For example, she said she’d like to give classes on hormonal imbalance and weight gain in women and hopes to offer sessions on pregnancy. She’d also like to focus on fighting childhood obesity and will help lead kids’ boot camps at Fitbody on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m.

Private, personal training sessions run $60 for an hour ($50 per hour if 10 or more sessions are purchased).

The staff at Fitbody includes award-winning competition body-builders and a former and current police officer.

There are no membership fees. Pogson said clients may show up last-minute and take a class. Fitbody also offers free trial sessions, and the owners are soliciting suggestions for additional types of classes.
