Readers' Choice Poll: Favorite Liquor Store

Where will you stock up on wine, beer and spirits for Memorial Day weekend and summer days?

Something was different on Sunday. Grocery store shelves stocked with beer weren't covered and liquor stores were open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Connecticut has long had blue laws barring Sunday liquor sales, but . That leaves Indiana as the only state left in the country that prohibits the sale of alcohol on Sunday.

Whether or not people went to a liquor store on Sunday (or plan to in the future), most of us have a favorite spot for stocking up on beer, wine and spirits for those summer barbecues and outdoor parties. With Memorial Day coming up, you will be able to run to liquor stores on Sunday for last-minute purchases in preparation for cookouts with friends and family on your day off.

Which liquor store is your favorite? Where do you go for the best advice, the best prices and the friendliest service?

We have included suggestions of Farmington Valley liquor stores.  If one of your favorites isn't on the list, let us know in the comments!

Hey Donna, The stores that sell liquor listed in our poll (including grocery stores) come from the Avon, Canton, Simsbury, Farmington and Granby/East Granby Patch directories (and from reader recommendations posted in the comments). My apologies if I missed some. If there are any not on our list, please suggest your favorite in the comments and we can add it to the poll and article. Is there a particular package store or liquor store we left off that you'd like to be in the running for Readers' Choice this week? Thanks for reading your local Patch! Have a nice day! You seem to have missed a ton of stores a simple look in the phone book would have made your poll more realistic! You forgot RJ's Spirit Shop Simsbury and Simsbury bottle shop in simsbury... kind of a poor poll!
Bill Daum May 21, 2012 at 04:32 PM
I agree as a store owner of one that is NOT listed, this is hurtful to all of us that are not currently on the list!

One approach to polls I have seen elsewhere (fangraphs.com) is to have the first post solicit "nominations" in the comments. Then the editors take, say, the top five or so most frequently nominated establishments and allow people to vote on those. I think that might be better than the approach because in this poll (a) some stores were missed and (b) we ended up with a poll for 25+ choices.
Jessie Sawyer (Editor) May 22, 2012 at 02:51 PM
Robert, Thanks for the feedback! We'll take it into consideration. What's your favorite liquor store? Tell us in the comments and we'll count them when we're tallying the votes and listing reviews. Thank you so much for sharing your favorite local liquor stores with Farmington Valley Patch readers. Remember, the voting (and commenting) period is open until Friday at 9 a.m.! And don't to forget to rate your favorite businesses by following the links in the article above to their directory listings.
