If you're looking for holiday cooking ideas, The Meat House in Avon is hosting a "try it before you buy it" Holiday Buffet on Saturday so you can ask questions and try samples of featured roasts, sides and desserts.
"We're trying to get people to know they can plan their whole holiday here," Rocío Olivares, The Meat House's new marketing representative at the Avon location.
Forty percent of items the Avon butcher and grocer carries are local.
"We like to promote all of the local businesses that participate in the store," Olivares said.
Patrons will have the opportunity to pick General Manager Matt Cormier's brain on the different roasts offered and how to cook them, Olivares said. Cooking guides are also available in-store.
Matt Tofil, a butcher and manager at The Meat House, said that the most popular roast around the holidays is a standing rib roast, a "bone-in prime rib."
A crown roast will also be featured at the Dec. 8 event, as well as several sides from Emily's Catering Group in Bristol such as creamed spinach, sauteed spinach, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, bacon cheddar mashed potatoes, herb roasted potatoes, macaroni and cheese, glazed carrots, brussel sprouts with bacon, corn souffle, and butternut suqash with sun-dried raisins.
The event runs from noon to 5 p.m.
The Meat House is located at 395 West Main Street in Avon. For more information, you can call the store at 860-676-4444.
