We want to mark the occasion by inviting people to come and tour our offices, and bring with them non-perishable food items to donate to our drive for the Friendly Hands Food Bank in Torrington.”

The 35 year anniversary also marks the recent announcement of the steady growth of the practice, and their recent merger with the former Physical Therapy Center at 245 Alvord Park Road in Torrington. “To comfortably accommodate our growing offerings of wellness, fitness and physical therapy care,” stated Albanese, “the practice has two offices, one at 30 Peck Road and one at 245 Alvord Park Road, and we closed our Kennedy Drive office with the acquisition of the Alvord Park Road practice.” When announcing the merger, Albanese named one of The Center’s physical therapists, Richard Boulli, as a managing partner of the practice. Combined, the two MPA office staffs offer over 200 years of professional experience to their patients.

The two Maletta Pfeiffer & Associates LLC offices provide therapeutic techniques for neck and back pain; chronic and migraine headaches; neurological disorders including MS, stroke, balance and gait; vertigo; sports and work injuries, carpal tunnel, arthritic pain, orthopedic problems and much more. “All our treatment plans,” explained Albanese, “are individualized and can include such treatments as ultrasound, electric stimulation, heat/ice, aquatic therapy, traction, and such hands-on techniques as massage, mobilizations, stretching, myofascial release and personalized nutrition and exercise.”

The private MPA practice was founded in 1978 by physical therapist Maletta Pfeiffer. Ms. Pfeiffer began the practice with just $3,000 and the rental of one room in the offices of a Torrington doctor on Prospect Street for five years. Originally from Sweden, she had spent some time in New York and decided to relocate to the Litchfield area where she recognized a need for an out-patient physical therapy office. Working 60 hours each week taking care of patients, while her husband oversaw the company’s books, Maletta Pfeiffer applied her great determination to open Maletta Pfeiffer & Associates, Torrington’s first physical therapy center.

“Maletta Pfeiffer’s beginnings were humble in that she knew what it took to create and maintain a successful business. She didn’t have a lot of money, or space, to work with, but she had great ambition to create a long-range caring service for the community. While the beginning office accommodations were stark, Maletta worked hard and through a lot of blood, sweat and tears, she created something strong and dedicated to the continual well being of everyone who enters the practice for care. To this day, Maletta exemplifies how a caring, devoted physical therapy professional can truly make a significant difference in people’s lives.”

To meet their patients’ needs, Albanese explained that the ambition of the recent merger with the Physical Therapy Center was to “offer within one practice, and at two separate locations, 30 Peck Road and 245 Alvord Park Road, one consolidated, well-trained and educated staff of physical therapists who collectively offer an award-winning high level of services. By acquiring The Physical Therapy Center we have merged the talents and capabilities of 11 highly-qualified physical therapists and assistants, and two teams of professional support staff, into one of the most advanced and dedicated health provider groups in this region.”

The merger represents another notable milestone in Albanese’s accomplished career as a physical therapist and as the current owner and managing partner of Maletta Pfeiffer & Associates. In 2007 he purchased the privately-owned Maletta Pfeiffer & Associates, LLC healthcare practice and began to take steps to expand the practice’s offerings. Prior to the purchase, he had been working as a physical therapist directly with the practice’s founder, Maletta Pfeiffer. In 2008, during the practice’s 30 year celebration, Albanese announced the practice’s expansion to two offices, one at 30 Peck Road and one at 333 Kennedy Drive in Torrington. The practice recently closed the Kennedy Drive office with the acquisition of The Physical Therapy Center. In 2011, he was named by “Connecticut” magazine as one of “40 Under 40” professionals who are recognized as ‘business and community leaders’.

Through his years of ownership, one of the expansion initiatives Albanese introduced was to complement the physical therapy services with wellness consultations, massage therapy, custom weight management, nutritional counseling and supplemental products for the practice’s patients. Since 2012, the practice has also offered the advanced P90X exercise program. “Our goal”, explained Albanese “is to consistently provide all our patients with the highest quality healthcare. We have consistently accomplished this by continually expanding our physical therapists’ knowledge through ongoing education and certification on the latest physical therapy techniques, equipment, and nutritional products. The ambition of the practice is to provide every patient with effective, highly-attentive care that will help each of them return to functional activities in their individual lives.”
