Want to Be Early For the Next Party? Consider Google+

Google+ is the next Facebook. Or Twitter. And if you don't like being late to a party, now's the perfect chance to get onboard.

Have you ever arrived late at a party? Everyone is already telling stories of the things that happened earlier and you never quite feel like you belong.

For many of the 700 milllion on Facebook, including some friends, that's how they feel on Facebook.  They never feel comfortable with it and always feel like someone else knows more then they do.

Same for Twitter.

Well, along comes Google+, the newest social networking site. Released just two weeks ago, it already has some ten million users (mainly early adopters like myself) but is growing at an incredible pace.  It's not crazy talk to think that it could top 100 million users by the end of the year.

For individuals, G+ has some neat features. It has some better privacy features than Facebook because you can put people into "Circles" -- limiting their access to you.  It also has a "Hangout" which allows users to video chat with up to 10 other users.  And it has a "Sparks" feature, which allows you to track topics of interest.

For businesses, it's unclear yet what features G+ will have, but given Google's propensity to blend other features (Gmail, Reader, Maps), it's not hard to imagine that its integration will be another big "plus" of this new social network.

And if you're a business, it's yet another reason why you should develop a social media policy.

If you've ever thought about joining a social network, Google+ may just give you that opportunity to start fresh and be one of the first onboard.
