Assistant Library Director Leaving for Newington, Avon Prepares for New Superintendent Gary Mala

Five things to know for March 2, 2010

Yesterday marked one more month of Assistant Library Director Donna Miller's time at the . She has accepted a job offer as library director of Lucy Robbins Welles Library in Newington and will begin on April 4.

Today marks Jody Goeler's last day as interim superindent of schools in Avon, and starting Thursday he will resume his previous role as assistant superintendent as begins his first day as Avon superintendent. That means it is also Paula Schwartz's last day as interim assistant superintendent, and she will subsequently go back into retirement and offer consulting services to the school district.

State representatives from Newtown's region are in the town amidst a proposed merger with the First Company Governor's Horse Guards of Avon. Avon Patch has reached out to Rep. Tim Legeyt (R-Canton/Avon) and State Sen. Kevin Witkos (R-8), and is waiting to hear back about their reactions to the proposal that was issued when Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced his budget request on Feb. 16. Representatives of Legeyt's office, Town Manager Brandon Robertson and Town Council Chairman Mark Zacchio (R), who is out of the country on business in India, all indicated that they are not familiar with the proposal.
