Avon: Be Patch Prepared for Hurricane Sandy

Even if there's no power, there are still ways to stay up-to-date with Avon Patch.

We all remember the power outages that followed Hurricane Irene and the October snowstorm. With Hurricane Sandy fast-approaching, make sure you have a way to stay informed with updates from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and the State of Connecticut, the town of Avon and your local utility companies with Avon Patch.

Even without power, there are still several ways to utilize Patch if you have a smartphone.

Download the App

Patch offers a free app for your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad (available for download here). You can see our top stories, check out photos and share comments right from your phone.

And if you've already liked us, keep in mind that Facebook has made some changes recently that mean you are seeing fewer of Avon Patch's posts in your newsfeed. And since we spend a lot of time not only posting links to all our great Avon content on our Facebook page, but also lots of other fun stuff and photos, we wanted to share with you a cool new Facebook feature to make sure you don't miss a thing!

Here's what you do:
1. Hover over the Avon Patch name on this post. When the box pops up, hover over the 'Liked' box.
2. Make sure the 'show in newsfeed' is checked off.
3. Click 'add to interests list'
4. Name your list if you have not already created one, like Avon Patch.

Now when you want to make sure that you have not missed anything from Avon Patch on Facebook, just click on the interest down the left rail of your Facebook newsfeed page.

Follow Us on Twitter

Hurricane Sandy is already trending on Twitter and will be gathering steam as she approaches. Simsbury Patch will be tweeting throughout the storm and feel free to reach out and tweet at us, too!
