PHOTOS: Parading the Halloween Spirit

Saturday's Halloween Parade, sponsored by the Avon Volunteer Fire Department, displayed costumes from beautiful princesses to daring warriors to funny themed characters. Seventy five kids attended.

The Avon Volunteer Fire Department sponsored Avon's Annual Children's Halloween Parade and Party at Pine Grove School, Saturday Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. just in time to beat the horrific pre-Halloween storm.

The fire department responsed to the call to sponsor the event for the town of Avon, enabling children pre-school aged to fifth grade to enjoy in festivities of a fun and safe, indoor Halloween spooktacular.

The Avon Volunteer Fire Department, a non-profit organization established in 1943, now with four companies, organized the event by selling low-cost tickets and organizing the games, coloring, face painting and food.

The Avon Cider Mill donated delicious apple cider. River Ridge provided homemade frosted cupcakes and Dunkin Donuts' hosted pumpkin flavored donut holes and coffee.

Over 75 children attended the Halloween parade and party. The children were captivated by the magic show, Magic of Christina, as she constantly involved and engaged the participants in her tricks. Parents sat quietly as their children were attentively sitting during the show.

Over 25 volunteers led the toss, bowling and other assorted gym games. Children marched proudly around the gym parading their colorful costumes and accessories. There was special recognition of the best in category for costumes but each child receieved a ribbon for his or her participation.

The fire department currently has over 140 volunteers on its rolls and is continually seeking qualified applicants.

Editor's Note: We apologize for the delay in uploading the Halloween parade photo gallery. Carolyn Marshall doesn't have power right now, so she had to go to the Canton Public Library to get internet access. Thank you, Carolyn!
