The Avon Free Public Library Campaign Committee is trying to raise $1 million in private funds to help fund the expansion and pay for furnishings, technology and other desired library features. So far, the library board, Friends of the Avon Free Public Library and patrons have collectively raised $700,000, which is in addition to the funds covered by the town and state. On April 9, the committee is hosting a beam signing party at which patrons can sign their names on a beam that will be a part of the library. Residents should have received packets about the campaign and more information can be found on the library website.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind is seeking volunteers to raise future guide dogs for blind people. The organization holds puppy raising classes in Avon and Granby on Monday evenings. There will be an open house at the Avon Congregational Church at 6 West Main St. on March 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
