Chevas Road Reopens After Tree Fell on Power Lines

The wind storm that started Wednesday night continued into Thursday in Avon.

Chevas Road in Avon has been reopened after being shut down while Public Works dealt with fallen debris on power lines, according to Avon Highway Foreman Paul Welsh.

Officials waited for Connecticut Light & Power to shut the power off a piece of a tree blown over in the wind could be removed, he said.

The debris hung on the trees over the eastbound lane headed toward Lovely Street, according to Welsh.

Just before 3 p.m., the issue was resolved and Welsh said the road was being reopened.
