[Update, 4:20 p.m.] CL&P: Full Power Will Be Restored to Avon by Wednesday; 37 Percent without Power

Do you think they'll achieve their newly set Wednesday goal?

Update, 4:22 p.m., Nov. 7

The power outage percentage is now at 37 percent of households, according to CL&P. The 1:30 p.m. from the town of Avon is posted on Avon Patch.

Please note, the town has pulled its power restoration map because it was based on information from CL&P that was proving inaccurate for certain locations. The is partially based on those reports, so from here on out, let us know if your street is on the list of power-restored areas or if it is not inclued so that we can make this a reader-generated outage map. Also, inform us if your power went back on and went out again.

Original Story

Connecticut Light & Power's reforcasted goal to restore power to 96 percent of Avon by 11:59 p.m. has fallen short as 32 percent of Avon, or 2,789 customers, still had no electricity as of 12:35 a.m. Monday.

The new goal, this time for full restoration, is Wednesday by 11:59 p.m.

Power has been restored to about 68 percent of residents.

The town of Avon was down to 25 percent, until the power outage percentage rose to 40 percent at around 10 a.m.

The Unionville substation has been repaired, along with other main circuits that serve Avon, so the town of Avon reported in a storm update on its website that this means CL&P crews can now come into neighborhoods to work on lines.

"Please note that power may come on and go off again in particular areas as service is being restored town-wide," the update said.

Twenty-five line crews and 15 tree crews were in Avon on Sunday according to CL&P.

Avon Public Schools are already closed on Monday and Tuesday, but there is no report yet on whether they will be closed on Wednesday.

Elections will go on as planned Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voting will be at Town Hall and Avon High School. Roaring Brook School district voters are instead advised to vote at the Avon High School old gym.

To report a power outage at your home, if you have not already done so, call 1-800-286-2000 to get more information about your street's status.

The town is asking residents to make sure appliances and electronics that were on before the power outage, including stoves and ovens, are off to prevent a power surge, clear stovetops in case one was on and to call a licensed technician if basements flood to check on furnace, freezer or and appliance motors before using them.

Contact AT&T, Comcast and other service providers about any damage to those systems during the storm to have it fixed. That damage will not affect restoring power.
