What's going on in Avon today, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011
We’re midway through February break but there are still some great vacation programs offered by the Avon Park and Recreation Department . For budding chefs and artisans in grades 3 to 6 there is a Cooking and Craft Workshop running on Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Another option if you are staying home this week is the Second Annual Nutmeg Book Buffet at thefor grades 4-8. There’s no need to register, just stop by between 12:30 and 5 p.m. today as the library unveils the ten 2012 Nutmeg Award nominees. Stay for a read-a-thon, pizza and snacks, then go home with one of the newly nominated books to keep.
Today is Iwo Jima Day which celebrates the day in 1945 that the American Flag was raised on the Pacific Island of Iwo Jima by the US Marines. Coincidentally, the Avon VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) is having it’s monthly meeting this evening at 6 p.m. at The Italian Club located at 32 Old Farms Rd. All members are invited and anyone interested in joining is welcome, too.
