Council Accepts $18,398 Gift for New Animal Control Van

That was the amount raised from the Waggin' for Wheels fundraising campaign.

The Avon unanimously accepted the $18,398.91 gift from the Thursday to fund the purchase of a new animal control vehicle.

The council also recommends approval of supplemental appropriation of the donation to the Board of Finance.

Just before, people in attendance of the meeting, mostly individuals involved in Waggin' for Wheel applauded Avon-Canton Officer Beverly LaPlume for her work in the community as she sat there with her canine sidekick, Corey. Capri Frank, manager of Miller Foods, the local food distributor spearheading the Waggin' for Wheels campaign.

LaPlume said she hopes to get the new van by the end of January.

Editor's Note: As we are now in the New Year, the new animal control vehicle will now be a 2012 model, not 2011 as was originally reported. This article has been updated with that change.
