High wind gusts overnight Wednesday into Thursday knocked down trees in Avon and caused power outages for some residents.

Four trees blew over on Chevas Road, Deercliff Road, Bayberry Hill Road and at Fisher Meadows, according to Paul Welsh, highway foreman for Avon Public Works.

"All the trees that fell down did have power lines involved," Welsh said.

Welsh said Connecticut Light & Power was reporting as many as 600 to 900 Avon customers without power earlier Thursday. As of 4 p.m., the outage map showed that 144 Avon customers still don't have power, about 1 percent of the town.
