Early Dismissal for Avon Public Schools

Avon Public Schools will close early on Monday due to anticipated inclement weather, according to the district website.

Farmington Valley Academy Montessori will likely close at 1 p.m. pending the storm, which will be confirmed in a notification to parents by 11 a.m., according to office staff.

The Capitol Region Education Council's Reggio Magnet School of the Arts in Avon will dismiss at noon, office staff told Patch.

Snow is expected to start falling before 4 p.m., followed by more snow and sleet over the next hour and then freezing rain after 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. There could be as much as two inches on the ground by the end of the day and temperatures could reach as high as 33 degrees Fahrenheit, the weather service's website states.

A winter weather advisory and hazardous weather outlook have been issued for Hartford County, according to the National Weather Service, from 1 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday. Driving and walking conditions could become icy, according to the winter weather advisory, so be careful if you need to be out this afternoon.
