Eastbound Lanes Toward Bottom of Avon Mountain Closed

There are multiple disabled vehicles.

The easbound lanes of Route 44 are closed toward the bottom of Avon Mountain as of 6:26 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Avon Police Department.

There have not been any accidents, but there are many disabled vehicles at the base of the mountain, police said.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory Wednesday morning because of anticipated accumulating snow from a Nor'easter, followed by possible freezing rain. About three to five inches is projected, which may then be glazed over by ice, the advisory states.

The advisory will last until at least 7 a.m. Thursday.

If there is snow and ice buildup, that may "make driving and walking difficult... but not impossible," the weather service said in its online advisory. Should you need to drive, the weather services urges motorists to be particularly careful on bridges and overpasses where "slippery spots can easily develop."
