Just a reminder, the Avon High School Sierra Club is hosting its third annual Eco-Night Friday night at the high school gallery/lobby and auditorium from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 and the event is open to the entire community. The fair promotes eco-friendly living and local vendors like The Flatbread Company and Ben and Jerry's will offer food. There will also be performances, a movie and activities. Smokey the Bear is going to make an appearance.

Terri Wilson, president of the Avon Historical Society, sent out an e-mail Thursday encouraging residents to continue sending letters to local representatives and Gov. Malloy in support of keeping the First Company Governor's Horse Guards in Avon. There is discussion in the legislature about splitting the $78,000, 50-50,  so that both can stay open and rely on fundraisers for the rest of necessary funding, but no decision has been made. She pointed concerned citizens to a template to e-mail Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

On Friday, May 27, from 6-11 p.m., nine attorneys will rock the Avon Senior Center as the Street Vipers rock band, playing music from the '60s through the present. The Hartford County Bar Association honored the band this month for its charitable work and public service. Proceeds from the event, which costs $50 for early birds that reserve tickets before May 9 and $65 for reservations afterward, will benefit the Farmington Valley Arts Center and help sustain it.
