ESPN's Kenny Mayne Hosts Unified Sports Football Clinic at Avon High School

A Mayne swan song as he prepares to move from Avon back to Seattle, Washington.

The Mayne thing kids should know about sports is to never give up, and that is a message local Unified Sports programs emulate.

Unified Sports athletes from Avon, Farmington, New Britain and Guilford came to Avon High School Saturday to learn football skills from Sports Center anchor and feature reporter Kenny Mayne.

Mayne, an Avon resident and former West Hartford resident, has volunteered for local Unified Sports programs and Special Olympics Connecticut.

He played football for two years at University of Nevada-Las Vegas, where he got a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. After graduating in 1982, he signed as a free agent for the Seattle Seahawks, representing his home state.

At ESPN, Mayne also hosts horse racing coverage and stars on web series Mayne Street, which fictionalizes his job as a sportscaster.

In August, he is moving back to Seattle with his wife and two kids, though he will continue his work at ESPN. The football clinic was also a swan song celebration for him, his wife, Laura Mayne said.
