Imagine the joy thousands of the Capital Region’s neediest kids will experience as they join in everything the YMCA has to offer. That's the goal of the 2013 Strong Kids Campaign. So far, more than 75 YMCA staff and volunteers have joined together to raise $72,609 towards this year's $130,000 branch goal, and they celebrated at the Strong Kids Campaign Celebration held recently at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford.

The YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign provides funding for financial assistance and program development at 11 YMCAs serving 52 towns of the Capital Area, allowing children, adults and families to access child care, pre-school programs, day and overnight camp experiences, literacy classes, performing arts, model government events, water safety programs and more. Funds raised by the Farmington Valley SKC is used to serve people living in the towns served by the branch.

This year's Farmington Valley YMCA Strong Kids Chair is John Carty, Sr., a senior vice president and financial advisor with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Incorporated. The campaign continues throughout the year in order to reach its goal.

Marcy Yanus, executive director of the Farmington Valley YMCA praised the work of the campaign leadership and volunteers.  “I see first hand the joy that young people get from their time at the Y. I am so proud of the fundraising team that is  'sharing the joy' by working toward this important cause. Through their efforts we can fulfill our promise not to turn away anyone regardless of their financial situation.  It is only by working together that we can truly serve.”
