Five Things to Know About This Week's Meetings

Five things to know on June 27, 2011.

Board of Finance

There is a regularly scheduled meeting Monday at 7 p.m. in the Selectmen's Conference Room in Town Hall, Building One. Avon Collector of Revenue Deborah Fioretti is slated to talk about this year's tax suspense list. The board will vote on approving the amount on the list, which is $16,693.50, according to the meeting agenda. The suspence list logs taxes the town of Avon cannot collect because the taxpayers have moved, closed their business, declared bankruptcy, or died, or because of a Supreme Court Order.

Board of Education

The school board meeting was rescheduled because of the Avon High School graduation last week and will begin at 7 p.m. in the high school community room. This week's Avon achievers are Nora Goeler, an art teacher at Avon Middle School, for her work on the Empty Bowl Project, and middle school student Brittany Stote for planning the school talent show. The board will also honor Ben Bergman for his service as the high school student representative at board meetings.

Prior to the board's regular meeting, its policy committee will convene at 6 p.m to talk about the regulations for rehiring staff and purchasing policies.

Planning and Zoning

Will the Capitol Region Education Council be permitted to rebuild its Reggio Magnet School of the Arts at 59 Waterville Road? The Planning and Zoning commission is scheduled to vote on whether to subdivide the land from Dr. Roy Beebe's adjacent Cider Mill and Le Jardin property, as well as permitting a school on that parcel and approving the education council's site plan and parking layout proposal. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Avon Senior Center. Note the change in location.

The commission is also scheduled to review ammendments to proposed zoning regulations for a new Village Center Zone and the 2006 Plan of Conservation and Development to adopt the village center masterplan design guidelines.
