Five Things to Say on Memorial Day

What else should Avon residents know about Memorial Day?

The Avon Memorial Parade starts at 11 a.m. by the Towpath Annex on Simsbury Road and ends at the Veteran's Memorial in Avon Park South. The parade stops at Avon Congregational Church Cemetery and the Prince Thomas of Savoy Club along the way.

Avon parent and Patch freelance photographer John Primovic will be attending the parade to snap some photos, so be sure to smile for the camera! If he does not get one of you, please either upload some to his album or e-mail Jessie.Sawyer@patch.com.

In case you want some light reading about flag etiquette on your day off Monday, Patch Associate Regional Editor Eileen McNamara knows the rules.

Do you have a loved one you are commemorating on Monday? I would love to hear stories about memories of Avon veterans to honor the day. Who were they in life and what is their history. You can either e-mail me at Jessie.Sawyer@patch.com or post messages about your lost loved ones in the Shout Box on the homepage.
