Flooding, Gentleman Prefer Blondes, Meetings, Moms Council

Five things to know about March 10, 2011.

The water has receded from Old Farms Road, Tillotson Road and Secret Lake Road, but the roads remain closed for now in anticipation of 2 to 4 more inches of rain Thursday night into Friday morning.

The Avon Water Polution Control Authority will meet on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Town Hall. Members of the board will give an update on the Haynes Road sewer project and Deepwood Drive Assessments. The Natural Resources Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m.

As part of its Thursday Movie Matinee, the Avon Free Public Library is showing Gentlemen Prefer Blondes at the Avon Senior Center at 1:30 p.m. The movie is based on a Broadway musical and novel in which two singers and best friends, Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw, go to Paris, all the while being followed by a private detective that Lee's father hired to watch out for her. Along the way they meet many eligible men.

The Avon Patch Moms Council is meeting at the Avon Starbucks at 1 p.m. New volunteers who want to participate about the discussion of parenting issues in Avon and suggest ideas for coverage of interest to local families are welcome to attend. RSVP to Jessie.Sawyer@patch.com.
