Last Library Sunday Hours of the Year, All-Conference Athletes Named, Dollars for Scholars and More

Five things to know about March 25.

This weekend marks the last Sunday hours of the season at the Avon Free Public Library. Sunday hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will start up again next January.

Avon residents can enjoy discounted skating at International Skating Center of Connecticut on Sunday between 2:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. with an Avon Day coupon. The coupons are available at the Avon Police Department Records Division counter. Each coupon entitles residents to $5 admission. The center is located at 1375 Hopmeadow St. in Simsbury. 

A team of Avon residents, sports enthusiasts and community services representatives, including former UCONN basketball player Justin Srb and ESPN Analyst Doug Gottlieb, will play against the Harlem Ambassadors basketball team on April 3 as a fundraiser Avon Dollars for Scholars. Student recipients of the scholarship will receive some funding for college. Tickets are on sale through April 2 for the show, which will take place at Avon High School at 2 p.m. Greg Zacchio and Coach Don Marconi will lead the Avon Scholars team, the head referee will be Paul Marioni and Avon High School a cappella group Rhapsody is booked to sing the national anthem.

Congratulations to Avon High School basketball players Tyler D'Onofrio, Caroline Jadovich and Emily Jordan for their All-Conference honors this season.

If you missed it on Wednesday, the filmed discussion between Board of Education and administrative officials about the proposed 2011-12 budget will be televised again Friday night at 6:30 p.m.  and March 27 at 7 p.m. on Comcast channel 95 and AT&T U-Verse channel 99. It will also air on Comcast channel 5 at 7 p.m. on March 30.
