Five things to know about Avon and Patch on March 1, 2011

We're getting closer to spring, Avon. Happy first day of March! Are you a Leap Day baby and celebrating your birthday today? If so, happy birthday, and you can read about and learn how they celebrate.

The were established in 1778 and chartered in 1888, and now, under Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's proposed budget for 2011-12, the state may with the Second Company Governor's Horse Guards in Newtown. The Second Company was chartered in 1808, and formed originally to escort the governor from New Haven to Middletown and the the First Company would take over from there to Hartford, according to the Second Company's website.
