Meetings, Benefits for Local Schools and Thursday Movie Matinee Series

Five things to know about April 6, 2011

Wow, there are a lot of meetings this week! Town Council is closing with a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's Chamber in Town Hall, building one. The council will discuss the procedure for the May 2 town meeting and set the poll hours for the May 11 referendum.

The council is also scheduled to review some resignations from the Wild and Scenic River Study Committee (D – Dec. 31, 2011), the Planning and  Zoning Commission (D – Dec. 31, 2011) and the Youth Services Advisory Board. To view the other meeting agenda items, visit the town website.

The Avon Free Public Library is showing "Moonstruck" as part of the Thursday Movie Matinee series at the Avon Senior Center at 1:30 p.m., free of charge. In the movie, a widowed Brookly bookkeeper has to choose between her fiancee and his brother.

There are two benefits Thursday night at local business to support district schools. From 4:30 p.m. until close, 10 percent of patrons' bills at First and Last Tavern will benefit Avon High School's Project Graduation, as long as you present the flyer posted on the town website. If you travel down Route 44 to the Ben & Jerry's at the Shoppes at the Farmington Valley, a portion of the proceeds from 5 to 7 p.m. are going to be donated to Pine Grove Nursery.
