Moonlight Hike, Father/Daughter Dance, Basketball and Beauty and the Beast

What's happening in Avon today, Friday, Feb. 18, 2011

The weather is warm and there will be a full moon  tonight - perfect conditions for a Moonlight Snowshoe Hike sponsored by the Avon Land Trust.  The hike will feature an exploration of the frozen wetlands and meadows of the Nod Brook Wildlife Management Area.  Meet at the Tower View Offices parking lot at 7 p.m., bring your snowshoes and poles and be prepared for a beautiful, moonlit winter's walk.

will be hosting a Father/Daughter dance this evening from 6:30-8:30p.m. in the cafeteria. Music will be provided by a DJ. There will be snacks, crafts and face painting, all to support the Avon Girl Scouts.

Also at the High School tonight, the boys junior varsity (JV) and varsity basketball teams  will face off against the Bolton  Bulldogs.  The JV team  will play at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity will tip off at 7 p.m.  The high school basketball season is winding down, so if you haven’t had a chance to catch a game, now’s the time.

Tickets for Beauty and the Beast, performed by the Newington Children’s Theatre Company, are now on sale through the Avon Recreation Department.  The show will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sunday March 27 at .  Tickets can only be purchased by mail.  Call 860-409-4365 for more information.

The Avon Arts Association will be having a workshop on Saturday from 9:30-2 p.m. at the .  The featured artist, Jack Broderick, who gave a demonstration of his artistic technique this past Tuesday, will conduct the workshop.  Open to members and non-members.
