Five things to know about March 11, 2011.

It is a bright and early rise for Avon Patch today. Canton Editor John Fitts, Avon, Canton, The Granbys and Simsbury Advertising Manager Nicholas Frazee, and I are scheduled to speak about Patch at the Avon-Canton Rotary Club meeting at 8 a.m. at Avon Old Farms Inn. So, if you're in the rotary club, maybe we'll see you there.

As an update to a story in January about former Avon freshman football coach David Olson's arrest on charges of permitting minors to have alcohol on New Year's Eve and violation of a town ordinance forbidding underage drinking on private property, the state's attorneys office at Enfield Superior Court has officially dismissed the case.

The is moving to Canton over the summer. Read about it on Avon Patch. The new rental space is going to save the health district at least $25,000 a year, according to Richard Matheny, director of the health district.

There is limited parking at the library due to construction and overflow parking is available across the street at . Library staff asks motorists to follow state of Connecticut law and yield for pedestrians using the cross walk to get to the library or the church on Country Club Road.

Lt. J. Paul Vance, spokesman for the Connecticut State Police, may be on television for more than his usual television spots about public safety and drunk driving awareness. After his son, J. Paul Vance, Jr. signed him up for a contest with Chaz & AJ In The Morning radio show on WPLR-FM and won, the lieutenant has earned an audition spot for the next season of Survivor. Do you know of anyone from Avon auditioning, as well? Auditions are March 16 at Foxwoods Resort Casino, and the first 300 before 5 p.m. are guaranteed an audition.
