Police Locate Runaway Avon Teen Missing Since December

The Silver Alert for Shanequa Lyn-Rock, 16, has been canceled.

An Avon teen reported missing at the end of December has been located.

The Dec. 29 Silver Alert issued for Shanequa-Lyn Rock has been canceled. Avon detectives traced her whereabouts to a specific location in the Burlington Vermont area on Friday, according to a press release from the department.

“We have located where she’s at. We’re just trying to make contact with her," Avon Police Lt. Kelly Walsh told Patch Friday morning. “She’s okay. We’ve made contact with a couple other parties who have talked to her.”

Avon police enlisted the help of the Burlington Police Department in Vermont, who responded to the address given to them Friday and found her in "good health," the release stated.

Rock was discovered missing from her Avon home over a month ago early morning on Dec. 29 and had left without her medication, police previously stated. No foul play was involved, according to police.

The Avon Police Department is not releasing further information on the incident because Rock is a juvenile.

Wonderful news. If this was not kidnapping, about she pay back the Town of Avon for its costs of finding here whereabouts?

No one has any right to comment since we have no details. Let's just hope she is where she wants to be and is happy and healthy. Case closed

WADR Ms Kaplan you are wrong. When Ms Rock's irresponsible behavior caused the expenditure of scares resources, it becomes the community's right to comment. If Ms. Rock was abused, exploited or neglected - report it and get help. Running leaves the perpetrator at large. Short of this illegal behavior, the details of Ms Rock's reasoning are not required to know that her decision cost the tax payers money & others concern / possibly anguish. Whatever else is going on in her life, she chose badly & such bad choices should not be rewarded with shout outs for happiness! Behavior has consequences, bad behavior usually has negative consequences, & an unemancipated 16 year old who "goes missing" is behaving behaving badly. Since when did it become the role of the community to applaud bad behavior and "hope" that a 16 year old is "were she wants to be". We should be teaching and modeling good behavior. Consider putting down your well worn copy of Doctor Harris's pop culture classic and start setting some limits! Life has consequences and to crib a popular novel and TV series, "Winter is coming" and it is bringing consequences that we in the USA have not experienced since the ravishes of the American Civil War. It may be too late but we should start teaching our young that they are not "Entitled" to act any way they want & someone else is responsible for the tab - that road leads to pillage, rape, despotism, & eventually to total barbarism! We are all connected & we have a choice.

Paul, Perhaps before YOU start judging and pontificating you too wait until ALL facts are known. Since when is running away illegal? Dangerous perhaps, but illegal? Maybe only in your mind...scary place that, indeed. And how do YOU know she chose badly? Again you're taking your own biases, prejudices and anger and painting a picture of which none of us has enough information to paint her decisions as "bad". That, sir, is in your own mind as well. What or how you base your conclusion that there are "...consequences that we in the USA have not experienced since the ravishes of the American Civil War" one can only speculate but I suspect, in your doomsday bunker you are prepared. And for what it's worth: "The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." Socrates (469–399 B.C.)

Noah, how come when Paul expresses himself it's pontificating but when you do it is enlightment?

Anthony, Pontificate: to speak in a pompous or dogmatic manner Enlighten: to give intellectual or spiritual light to; instruct; impart knowledge to You and other readers can decide who pontificates and who enlightens. Thanks

@Poodetwa. "Freedom of speech" does exist on the Patch - it is a privately owned web site.
