Roads No Longer Flooded, but Remain Closed

The roads were still barricaded as of Wednesday evening.

There is no more water on Old Farms Road, Tillotson Road and Secret Lake Road, but 2 to 4 more inches of rain on Thursday night into Friday morning could cause more flooding.

"There is more rain coming on Thursday," Paul Welsh, Avon highway foreman, said. "We're trying to decide whether to keep [Old Farms Road] closed. The river is still high...."

Avon Public Works Department employees were on Old Farms Road Wednesday morning clearing the sand that the flooding had washed onto the road.

"The water drains off of the road on its own," Welsh said. "We don't physically remove the water, but we removed debris. There was not a lot of work that needed to be done. The roadways are clear, but the river's still high."

Old Farms Road, Tillotson Road and Secret Lake Road were still barricaded on Wednesday evening, though some cars were driving past the barricades. Police confirmed on Thursday morning that Secret Lake Road has reopened, but Old Farms Road and Tillotson Road remain closed.
